Academic English
Academic English helps you develop the English language and academic skills you need to succeed in university studies.
The programme focuses on academic reading, writing, speaking, and listening, while building confidence, independence, and effective study habits.
What You Will Learn
You will learn to:
Read and understand academic texts
Write clear and well-structured academic assignments
Speak confidently in academic discussions and presentations
Improve listening and note-taking skills for lectures
Use sources correctly and avoid plagiarism
Develop critical thinking and independent learning skills
Levels and Progress
The programme is offered at four Academic English levels (CEFR B1–C1).
Before the course begins, you will complete a placement assessment to ensure you start at the level that best supports your learning. You may progress to higher levels during your studies based on your performance.
Assessment and Progression
Your progress is assessed throughout the programme through:
Written assignments
Speaking and presentation tasks
Reading and listening activities
Successful completion of the programme may support progression to:
Higher Academic English levels
University preparation or pathway programmes
Degree studies (subject to institutional requirements)

Fees |
Fees are based on a weekly tuition rate of NZD 295. |

New courses start on the first Monday of every month. |
Study Schedule |
Monday to Friday
Morning: 8:30 am – 12:00 pm (3 hours) Each class includes a 15-minute break. |
Entry Requirements |
A placement test is completed before the course begins.
You may submit a recent IELTS score as an indication of your English level. If results differ, our Academic English team will place you in the level that best supports your learning. Students below the required level will be advised on suitable study options. |
